ABOUT ME

I am a professional artist specialising in illustration, caricature and cartooning. I use pen and ink wash, airbrush and pencil, and other media. My compositions are simple in design with a close attention to detail. I draw inspiration from nature, art, literature, people I meet and the crazy world we live in. Humour is integral to my work, sometimes subtle, sometimes not. I am happiest when sketching from life. Tone, line, colour and texture bring my ideas to life. I have recently been exploring the traditional medium of oil painting and the exciting possibilities of digital illustration.

EXPERIENCE

I have over 25 years experience as an artist for the Newcastle Herald and more recently Newcastle Sunday, winning numerous awards including the 1991 Northern NSW Journalist of the Year.

In 2006 I was invited to exhibit at Lorn Gallery in the Hunter Valley. “Facing the News” was opened by local entertainer Su Cruikshank and showcased my body of published work depicting celebrities, politicians and sportspeople.

I am a graduate of Newcastle College of Advanced Education (now University of Newcastle), achieving a Bachelor of Arts, Visual Arts (BAVA), and a Graduate Diploma in Art (Plant and Wildlife Illustration, Photography). I was the recipient of the 1986 Annual Wildlife Illustration Scholarship from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

An enthusiastic traveller, I love coming back to my favourite destination: Lake Macquarie, Australia.

Client Reviews

Mandy Graham creates memorable art from the heart. She is an illustrator and designer of rare talent and remarkable insight. Her caricatures and cartoons are infused with a blithesome humour that invariably elevates the subject or situation.
— Chad Leigh Watson, Group Managing Editor, Newcastle-Hunter, Fairfax Media
Knowing how attached owners can be to their homes is one of the things that makes Elizabeth such a gem. She had a selling plan that highlighted all the work I’d put into my house. In the end, I was very satisfied and felt that I could let go more easily.

Somehow, Elizabeth manages to be both a caretaker and a rockstar negotiator.
